Ooooh! I think I know this car from several of the Corolla forums, and it is a stunning car, period...and all the more amazing considering that it is a truly grassroots effort from an individual with dedication, vision, and a lot of time and effort. Awaiting an update with some pictures and more details...

Thanks guys, been a long 10 years with the car and now its time to let go. The car is being parted out with pcs being scattered nearly coast to coast so I can begin new with a clean sheet of paper something that will if it works out certainly keep my attention behind the wheel.

Plans are to build a 900lb open wheel car with a mid mounted motorcycle engine,by mid mounted I mean truly mid mounted in that it'll be sitting directly beside me. Miata hubs, brakes and diff, rest all custom. Gotta get busy nailing down the final dimensions, rough sketchs put the wheel base a little under 90",total lenght of car about 100".

So how much boost were you running in your set up and what size of jets were you using? Im currently putting R1 carbs on my 77 vw scirooco thats running an 2l 8v motor and toying with some ideas.

I was running 14lbs of boost, has seen as high as 19lbs but tore the transmission apart, hence the 14lbs. Can't rememeber what jets off the top of my head,r1 carbs are very easy to tune and have no problem with seeing boost provided you do the mods listed on the net.You need to show the bowl vents boost pressure via a pitot tube.Search ri turbo for a guy in sweden, lots of pics and good info on his site. I have the malpassi dual port regulator needed to make this work, willing to sell if you'd like. They are a bitch to find and I had to get mine from sweden.I also have the sealed plenum I built for the R1 carbs,I'd let it go with the regulator for a good deal-oh yeah I also have a new msd spark retard box for boosted applications. Hey I'm your 1 stop shop for the parts you'll need.:)

What would you think would be a fair price for the regulator? Id be making the intake plenum as im running a counter flow with very limited space for it to fit and im already running an ingnition system that will play nice wit hthe boost as well. Do you remember what all you had to do to the carbs for the boost. Ive done searches but only found info on preparing webers and downdraft carbs.

The regulator isn't all that expensive,it took me 4 months to receive it from the the time of 1st contact with the swede's-their english not so good.Just saving that headache will be worth it for you. Contact me at tsmith011@sympatico.ca and I'll give you the links to the info etc.

Sounds great. Im curious what kind of power you were making? Did you ever get it onto the Dyno?

kevlarcorolla

Never made it to the dyno, tuned it with a wide band/plug readings. I'd be surprised if it wasn't making about 230hp at 14lbs,it would leave tracks in 3rd gear with 225 race rubber. It was freaking nutty at 19lbs :) Seriously e-mail me and I can help you out,I have an in car to show throttle response at an autox.

jgm516@yahoo.com I found a yamaha sled site that im getting some more info on but its a forum so im getting alot of capfor asking questions that pertain to the carbs but not having them about a sled.

Yeah I used the sled site as well, there's a few very experienced guys on there with turbo set-ups.They all bought a kit though and don't always understand why its the way it is.

Yeah so far its why are you using these carbs on a car and wanting to turbo it...Dont they have kits for that.....Why not use ITBS....

I sent you an e-mail,did you get it?. I did itb's on a supercharged 20v with a stanalone-far to many electronic headaches so I went with the carbs and had far better results.

Yeah i got it thanks a ton. im going to have my rocco up and running tomorrow just n/a im hoping. But im going to start setting up a kit to turbo it here in the next couple of months. Thank for your help. I think its funny though everybodies still asking e why i dont go to standalone and itbs but if this goes as smooth as i hope it to and as your making it out ill ave roughly a grand or so into it between the carbs and everything vs 3-4 for going standalone and itbs.
