In case you missed it or just want to watch it again, here’s the seventh-hour incident that collected five cars.

Thankfully, all drivers were later cleared by medical later that night.

(And, despite initial fears, Rexy made it out of the incident unscathed.)

The Rolex this year seemed to be making a very good argument in favor of tire warmers.

I remember talking with some of the Falken engineers at the Nurburgring 24 a few years ago and they made a really interesting point about why they allow tire warmers there. It's a safety thing. And not the safety of getting everyone to race pace quicker, but actual tire failure safety.

When ambient temps are really low, you're going to get a huge temp gain from ambient tire temp to race tire temp. And a huge temp gain means a huge pressure gain. So your starting pressures have to be really low to accommodate that anticipated pressure gain, and that increases the risk of debeading, rim strike, or some other catastrophic tire failure.

Daytona was crazy cold this year, even for daytona, and I'm honestly surprised there wasn't more temp-related tire weirdness.

In reply to JG Pasterjak :

So what you are saying it was the fault of the tire engineers for not designing around a probable weather situation. Who want a free out by wanting a crutch.
