Wow. Posting more video content right on the heels of that "beef with GRM" class action video content lawsuit thread. Gimme another $2,500, please.
But yeah, while his F1 career may have been limited more by the teams he drove for rather than his talent, he sure has found a home in endurance prototype racing over the years.
I've been re-watching the race, and today I saw this part of it. No doubt that Kobayashi is an awesome driver of the highest caliber, but keep in mind that the sequence in the video was late in the day on Saturday, but there was still 19 1/2 hours left to go. That meant that the other drivers weren't going to fight him TOO hard since you don't get a trophy for leading at the 4 1/2 hour mark. He was also using up fuel faster than any one else - he had to stop a lap earlier than every other GTP car after the stretch shown in the video.
Passing all those cars with two hours left in the race would have been quite a bit more impressive. Sadly the car wasn't around at the end for Kobayashi to show his skills, as the car was in a multi-car crash later Saturday night.
I had the opportunity to be in the media center when Kobayashi stopped by for some Q&A.
Earlier in the day, Jordan Taylor mentioned that Kobayashi had bought a portable sauna at the Bass Pro Shop across the street earlier in the week.
Kobayashi was all too happy to brag about his portable sauna and how much fun he had leading up to the race, going between the cold plunge and the sauna.

10/10, a hilarious guy.

Only one man has ever passed the Kobayashi: James T. Kirk.
