What some would label a lost cause, we tend to see as an opportunity to save an iconic sports car. Case in point: a 1964 Lotus Elan Series 1 we dubbed “Restoration Impossible.”
Why the forlorn name? The Elan may have been the dictionary definition of a basket case: It had been sitting uncovered and exposed to the elements in a field outside of Traverse, Michigan, since the late 1970s. And it wound up there after it was involved in a collision that all but destroyed its rear end.
Don’t worry, though. This story has a happy ending, and we've started recounting the saga over on Classis Motorsports. Get started with chapters one, two and three of the magazine series, and check back frequently to get more updates.
